Basic Glaze Theory 1-day Workshop 23rd March and 15th June 2024 -BRISTOL

£90.00

Basic glaze theory workshop in my new studio at Estate Of The Arts in Bedminster! 10am-4pm. Face -to-face, small group of just 6 so we can space out enough. Four dates; Saturday 23rd March and Saturday 15th June. October dates tbd. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided but due to health and safety measures lunch will have to be supplied by yourselves, but there's plenty of food places near by.

I've been a potter and scientist for over 20 years. My aim is to take this subject and put it in a context that everyone can understand. I will take you through the basics of glaze ingredients, the basic chemistry involved and how different ingredients effect the fired glaze. Ill discuss different types of clay and different firing temperatures and atmospheres. We will make some sample glazes together and make some test tiles that I can fire in an electric kiln up to stoneware temperatures. I'm enthusiastic and will endeavour to answer all of your questions.

Note that you don't need to pay any delivery costs at the checkout.

TESTIMONIALS

I absolutely loved the glaze workshop I attended in October.
Lucy is extremely knowledgeable about glazes and ceramics as a whole and the morning was spent going through the science behind what makes a glaze. It was quite a lot to take in but Lucy explained everything so clearly with lots of diagrams and discussion so (I think!) most of it went in!
In the afternoon (after an awesome lunch made by Lucy herself - I have coeliac disease and she provided lovely gluten free things especially!) we put what we’d learned to the test by making a variety of glazes, some of which we were able to take home. We used ready-fired tiles to test our glazes and these were fired ready to collect a couple of weeks later. The results were pretty cool and in some cases unexpected!

I had such a good time and your workshop has really taken away my ambivalence towards trying to make glazes. It always seemed such a scientific mystery but you have really helped to turn it into something I would like to do myself (at some point ). It was great fun mixing up the ingredients and I can't wait to use the glaze.

Thanks for a great day today. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I found it a great mixture of theory and practice. I'm looking forward to trying out my new blue glaze.

Thank you for sending my glaze tests, I was really pleased with the results.
I’ve had a go at mixing up my own glaze and adding in some oxides. Your course really gave me the confidence and knowledge to attempt this.
